Interest is only the start
A guest arriving on your direct booking website may already know the property from a marketplace, a recommendation or a search. Your site must turn that interest into a confident decision.
These seven short guides explain common barriers and practical fixes. Start with the problem you recognize; each article stands alone. The interfaces use the fictional “Example Stay” so you can see the difference before reading the detail.
Read your site like a guest
Guests need six answers before paying. Use these questions to choose which part of the journey needs attention first.
1. A booking page that feels unfamiliar
Different branding or conflicting property facts make guests hesitate. Keep the selected stay, business identity and total recognizable through payment.
2. Photos that make guests wait
Original camera files can overwhelm a phone. Deliver smaller responsive photos, load the hero early and reserve image dimensions.
3. Fees that appear too late
An £89 night plus £25 mandatory cleaning is £114 total. Show the complete cost before the guest commits.
4. A gallery without decision-making detail
Beds, location, parking, price and policies belong on each property page. Give guests enough information to choose the stay.
5. Badges instead of evidence
Show genuine dated reviews, a recognizable business and visible cancellation terms. Explain who is responsible for the stay and payment.
6. One way to ask a question
WhatsApp suits some guests; email, phone and enquiries suit others. Offer clear choices that your team can reliably answer.
7. A redesign that breaks old links
Keep useful URLs stable. Where they change, redirect each old address to its matching new page and monitor the move.
Four Google assumptions to check
- Individual vacation homes are ineligible for Business Profiles; an eligible sales or leasing office is a different case.
- Self-serving LocalBusiness and Organization reviews, including embedded widgets, do not qualify for review stars.
- Vacation rental rich results require eligibility and integration access; markup alone is insufficient.
- Google Vacation Rentals offers free booking links, subject to integration eligibility and landing-page requirements. It is not a guarantee of visibility.
Your 30-minute booking audit
Use your phone and mobile data. Follow one property from its page towards payment, then check the supporting information. Count the answers you cannot confidently find.
Choose one improvement to make first
Start with the gap that blocks a guest’s decision: an unclear total, missing property detail or a confusing checkout. Use its guide, test the change and then work through the next barrier. A better booking website makes the useful answer easy to find.
